What is 287 (g) and What Does it Do?
Frederick County, MD Sheriff Chuck Jenkins says 287 (g) is a section of the Nationality Act — passed under Bill Clinton — that allows a local sheriff or local detention center to partner with ICE. As Jenkins tells Steve Bannon and Law & Border host Ben Bergquam, 287 (g) helps identify illegals who are in our country who have committed crimes. "It is a jail-based program," Jenkins says. "You have to be physically arrested and brought into our jail. We determine if you are here legally or not, and we cooperate with ICE and turn you over to ICE. They make the decision whether to deport a criminal."
