‘The Rock’ Visits Telescope Protests in Hawaii
Hollywood actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson visited protesters blocking construction of a giant telescope on Mauna Kea volcano in Hawaii, Wednesday, July 24. The Rock exchanged traditional nose-to-nose greetings, called honi, with protesters as dancers performed hula and chanted. Johnson is Samoan, not Hawaiian, but he spent part of his childhood in Honolulu. He is set to star as King Kamehameha the Great, the leader who unified the Hawaiian Islands in 1810, in an upcoming movie. Protesters, in their 10th day of protesting, are attempting to prevent construction crews from reaching the summit of Mauna Kea.
