Thailand: Prized Buffaloes Participate in Muddy Race

Farmers in eastern Thailand showed off their fastest bovines in a muddy race in the Chonburi Province on Sunday, July 21. The annual buffalo race is a 100-year-old custom used to mark annual rice plantings in the country. The race was traditionally held as a form of relaxation after the buffaloes helped farmers in their daily work. While tractors have largely replaced these large animals in farming, the race has become a prized tradition in Thailand. (AFP)
