Puerto Rico’s Governor to Resign, Protests Turn to Celebrations
Puerto Ricans are expected to get a new governor next month after the U.S. territory’s embattled governor announced his resignation in the face of a popular uprising. Street celebrations erupted in Puerto Rico after Governor Ricardo Rossello announced late Wednesday that he is stepping down. A firestorm broke out after chat messages were leaked in which Rossello and his advisers repeatedly denigrated women, gay people, and hurricane victims. VOA’s Arash Arabasadi reports.
