Fires Cause Power Outage During Wisconsin Heatwave
Thousands of residents of Madison, Wisconsin, were left without power amid extremely high temperatures on Friday, July 19, following two fires at electrical substations.
In a statement on its website, the Madison Gas and Electric Company, whose equipment was affected by the first of the fires, said it believed a mechanical issue was the cause, rather than the heat.
The power outage came as Madison braced for predicted temperatures of 34C, prompting Governor Tony Evers to asked nonessential state workers to stay home.(REUTERS)
