Former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz set off a firestorm among Democrats recently when he announced he was considering a run for president as an independent candidate. Democrats fear a centrist independent could siphon votes away from their presidential nominee in 2020, helping to re-elect President Donald Trump to a second term.
