Biden Faces Scrutiny on the Left Amid Sex Assault Allegation

Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden could face fracturing support on the left as he stands accused of sexual assault by a former staffer and endures lingering resentment from vanquished Bernie Sanders supporters.

Biden consolidated establishment party support and secured the presumptive Democrat nomination as major donors including Bernard Schwartz worked to freeze out socialist challenger Sanders. Now, Biden has the endorsement of former president Barack Obama, making it seemingly less likely that Democrats will move to replace Biden on the ticket due to his obvious mental decline issues. No wonder Wednesday’s POLITICO/Morning Consult poll shows that roughly 80 percent of Democrats desire a Biden running mate with “legislative and executive experience.”

Democratic Socialists of America made clear that they do not stand with the man President Trump refers to as “Sleepy Joe”:

Biden was recently accused of sexual assault by Tara Reade in a podcast interview with journalist Katie Halper. This allegation is disturbing considering that Reade accuses Biden of physically penetrating her with his fingers.

Biden’s campaign finally responded to the allegation Tuesday, the day of Obama’s endorsement.

“He firmly believes that women have a right to be heard – and heard respectfully. Such claims should also be diligently reviewed by an independent press. What is clear about this claim: It is untrue. This absolutely did not happen,” said Biden campaign spokeswoman Kate Bedingfield.

In her interview with Halper, Reade told the story of the alleged 1993 assault.

“[A superior] called me in and said, “I want you to take this to Joe. He wants it. He wants you to bring it. Hurry. And I said, “Okay.” And it was a gym bag. She said, you know, take the gym bag. She called it an ‘athletic bag’. And you know she said he was down towards the Capitol and he’ll meet you. And so I went down, and I was heading down towards there and he was at first talking to someone. I could see him at a distance and they went away and then um we were in like the side. It was like the side area. And um he just said “Hey, come here Tara” and then I handed him the thing and he greeted me. He remembered my name. And then we were alone, and it was the strangest thing. There was no like exchange really,” Reade said.

“He just had me up against the wall. And um I was wearing a skirt. You know a business skirt, but I wasn’t wearing stockings. It was kind of a hot day that day, and I was wearing heels. And I remember my legs had been hurting from the marble, you know of the Capitol. And so I remember that kind of stuff. I remember like I was wearing a blouse and he just had me up against the wall, and the wall was cold. And I remember he- it happened all at once. The gym bag – I don’t know where it went. I handed it to him and it was gone. And then his hands were on me and underneath my clothes. And um yeah and then he went um.. he went down my skirt and up inside it and he uh penetrated me with his fingers. And um I- uh he was kissing me at the same time, and he was saying something to me. He was saying several things, and I can’t remember everything he said. I remember a couple of things. I remember him saying first like as he was doing it, “Do you wanna go somewhere else? And then him saying to me when I pulled away he um got finished doing what he was doing and I kind of was pulled back and he said, “Come on, man. I heard you liked me.”… Reade said.

“Yeah there’s something he said that I didn’t want to say, and I didn’t want to say it because it’s the thing that stays in my head over and over like. And um it’s the thing that kind of stayed with me over the years. But he said, um. When he had me against the wall after he had done- after I pulled away and he said, “Hey” you know “Come on, I heard you liked me.” And I um knew he was angry right after he took his finger. He just like pointed at me and he said “You’re nothing to me.” And he just looked at me and goes, “You’re nothing. Nothing.” And then I must’ve reacted. And I think he only said it twice. But I just heard the word ‘nothing’. And I must’ve reacted because that’s when he took me by the shoulders and he said, you know, “You’re okay. You’re fine. You’re okay.” But then afterwards like it kept replaying in my head and like last April when all that stuff came out, I got really really sad about it. And the thing that I remember most- almost more than the assault itself, was that I was nothing. And he was right. That’s how people treated me. That’s how the whole office treated me. And I have no platform. I am no one. And to him I’m nothing,” Reade said.

Reade believers are now at odds with Democrat Party supporters who seek to minimize the allegation out of electoral necessity and people who propagate the idea that Reade is a Russian asset.

“To be clear, two interns confirmed that Reade was abruptly relieved some of her duties. And both WaPo and NY Times asked the Biden campaign for comment and somehow neither asked why she was demoted or if they did, they didn’t print why. Seems pretty weird,” said journalist Katie Halper.

The institutional liberal media’s blind spot on the Biden allegation is stunning. As Jacobin Mag reported, Biden took 41 questions over the course of three cable interviews and a CNN town hall in six days after Reade came forward. The media and town hall attendees went 0 for 41 on asking Biden about Reade.

The Democrat Party’s rising socialist starlet Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who backed Bernie, threw shade at her party’s likely torchbearer the same day Obama endorsed his former vice president.

“I think it’s legitimate to talk about these things,” said Ocasio-Cortez in an online female forum. “And if we want, if we again want to have integrity, you can’t say, you know — both believe women, support all of this, until it inconveniences you, until it inconveniences us.”

“I think a lot of us are just in this moment where it’s like, how did we get here? You know, it almost felt like we started this cycle where we had kind of moved on from, you know, from all of this. And now it feels like we’re kind of back in it. You know, the most diverse field that we’ve ever seen, that we’re kind of back kind of replaying old movies in a way,” Ocasio-Cortez stated.

“Alexandria Ocasio Cortez is literally the first member of Congress to address publicly what happened to me when I worked for Joe Biden. Thank you @AOC,” Tara Reade tweeted.

Biden’s own past comments on sexual assault could come back to haunt him.

“Why do you think women who get raped, so many don’t report it?” Biden said at a speech in 2013 at an event for the DC Volunteer Lawyers Project, a group managed by his former daughter-in-law Kathleen, ex-wife of son Hunter.

“They don’t want to get raped again by the system,” Biden said.
